A passing policeman found a little child,
He walked beside her, dried her tears and smiled,
Says he to her kindly, “You must not cry,
I'll find your mother for you by and by.”
At the station, he asked her for her name,
And she answered “Jenny” which caused him to exclaim:
At last of your mother I now have found a trace,
Your features bring a vision back of her sweet face.
Do not fear, little darling, I'll take you to your home,
Now sit down close beside me; no more from you I'll roam,
You were in your mother's arms one fateful day,
When she left home, deserted me, and took my child away.
'Twas all through a quarrel. Madly jealous, she
Decided for to leave me, woman-like you see.
Oh how I loved her, grief near drove me wild
“Papa, you are crying,” lisped the little child.
Then suddenly the station door was opened wide
By the anxious mother. “Where is my child?” she cried.
She was his wife, again they're face to face,
And all was forgiven in one fond embrace.
